Heather's Hummus

It will make you feel like that you had traveled to Middle East to dig for Hummus! I totally LOVE the Hummus! I usually make it often as much as I can! It taste more FRESH than buy those ready-made containers at the food store. Another pro about having a homemade Hummus is that you can add any ingredients by your choice!

1 can chicken peas (Garbanzo Beans), drained and save the liquid *That's IMPORTANT to save that liquid because it will makes the hummus more moisture than dry it up*

One to Three cloves of garlic, chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons FRESH lemon juice
1/2 cup Tahini (Sesame Paste)- you may want to find it at the International Market or in the aisle where it sells the middle east foods
1/4 cup chopped yellow onion
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper

Mix everything together in a blender and blend until smooth. Add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of saved juice from beans to make mixture less dry.

Refrigerate at least 3 or 4 hours before serving to let flavors blend together. Drizzle the hummus with a little bit of olive oil. I use the ground black pepper on top- you can do that if you want to!

You can serve it with pita breads and any vegetables like carrots, celeries and etc.

  1. But I tend to use dry beans and soak them. Do I cook first or soak until soft? Save that liquid as well?

  2. Von- I used the canned ones... Since you are using the dry beans then it would be a good idea to save some liquids.
